I work with children and adolescents at my practice in Kingston, Surrey. Using art materials, plastiscines, role play and Sand Tray Therapy I can work with your child to help them process their emotions.
Children and adolescents are often overwhelmed by their feelings and while traditional 'talking therapy' is sometimes suitable, for many young people it isn't a natural method of communicating. Through play, young children are able to process complicated emotions non-verbally leaving them less overwhelmed and potentially learning an emotional vocabulary.
Together with another child and adolescent psychotherapist, Saskia Joss, I run, Helping Families UK, a company designed to offer free helpful tips for parents, teachers and children. www.helpingfamilies.co.uk *Please note that in most cases some work with the family will be helpful so that the work can continue at home.
Parenting Support Sessions
There are few things harder than feeling unable to help your child. Quite often this leads to contacting a professional which in some cases is necessary. However, sometimes with a more 'therapeutic' or 'intentional' parenting style, you can facilitate an environment where your child can begin to thrive again.
Parent support sessions are fortnightly 45 minute sessions where we can discuss typical, difficult to manage scenarios. During the sessions we will find strategies for you to implement for the following two weeks. These strategies will be sent to you in a PDF for your reference.
In some cases it may become apparent that your child is in need of 1-2-1 psychotherapy, if this is the case then I will certainly suggest this and if I am unable to help, point you towards the right support.
